As you’ve probably gathered by now, I’m passionate about venturing into the wilderness and discovering the beauty of nature. If you’ve read my previous blog posts, you’ll know how much I love the adidas Terrex line of women’s walking boots and hiking shoes. I’ve never encountered a pair of walking shoes that fit so perfectly from the moment you wear them, and I’ve never experienced a blister with them. They truly are a dream come true.
This is why I wanted my husband to invest in a quality pair of walking shoes as well. Let me explain…
Why My Husband Needs New Walking Shoes
My husband has been stuck wearing the same old, inexpensive walking shoes for longer than I can recall. I make him keep them in our boot room because, quite frankly, they smell awful. They offer no support, the insoles have shifted, and he has a tendency to wear them like slippers instead of properly tying them. While they might be as comfortable as slippers, they definitely aren’t doing his feet any favors, and they’re certainly not good for my nose!
If it were up to him, I’m convinced he would continue with these shoes until they were completely falling apart. But during one of our dog walks, something happened that made him rethink his footwear choices.
I noticed he kept stopping to adjust his shoes, which was quite frustrating as I wanted to maintain a good pace. When I asked him what was going on, he mentioned that he was getting stones in his shoes. I couldn’t help but smugly point out that my quality walking shoes prevented me from having that issue. That moment sparked something in him. Even a small irritation like that was enough for him to conclude that he needed a new pair of walking shoes, and that’s when I suggested adidas Terrex.
Luckily, being an adidas blogger gives me access to a variety of their products. Having had great experiences with Terrex (I even own two pairs!), I knew this line was perfect for him. I shared several options, and he ended up choosing this one…

Adidas Terrex Free Hiker 2 Hiking Shoe
One feature that immediately caught my husband’s attention while browsing the selection of men’s walking shoes I compiled for him was the integrated sock-like cuff of the adidas Terrex Free Hiker 2. It gives the shoe a high-rise boot look while the stretchy cuff snugly contours to the upper ankle, reducing the risk of chafing and providing more support. This snug fit also acts as a gaiter, keeping small stones and debris from entering the shoe. BINGO!
The Terrex shoes feature Continental™ rubber grip—yes, the same brand that produces car tires—ensuring incredible traction. If it keeps cars grounded in various conditions, it’s sure to perform well during our forest walks. My husband often takes our dog through the muddy, slippery hills behind our garden, where good grip is essential.
What makes these shoes particularly comfortable? Well, aside from the sock-like cuff, the shoe includes BOOST midsole cushioning. This proprietary technology uses specially molded pellets to create a fit that’s incredibly responsive. It offers 20% more energy return with every step, which essentially makes it feel like walking on soft, bouncy pillows. For my husband, it means he can enjoy a pair of shoes that are as cozy as his slippers while receiving the proper support for his feet.
He opted for the classic black color (always versatile and requires less cleaning!), officially referred to as Core Black/Core Black/Grey Six by adidas. They also come in two additional colors: Pulse Olive/Linen Green/Impact Orange and Bliss Lilac/Beam Orange/Pulse Magenta.

What Does My Husband Think of His New Shoes?
Well, he absolutely loves them! If only he had listened to me sooner! He was struck by how comfortable they felt right off the bat. In the past, when purchasing walking shoes or trail running shoes, we always had to break them in. But with adidas Terrex, that isn’t the case at all—they’re comfortable from the very start.
But enough about me; here’s his take on them…
“For years, I’ve struggled with debris getting stuck in my shoes while walking in the woods, constantly needing to stop and remove them. So, the idea of walking trainers with a snug sock-style cuff was very appealing! I chose a black pair and opted to size up by half, following advice from the adidas website. They were a bit tricky to put on at first, which is to be expected with this style, particularly when new, but they fit well and felt really comfortable right away. On a 5-mile walk that included many woodland paths, none of the twigs or grit bothered my feet, and the comfort level for a brand-new pair of shoes was unlike anything I’ve ever experienced. I’m thrilled with them and plan to use them for all my walks.”
So, the key takeaway here is the importance of having a comfortable, supportive pair of walking shoes that can handle the demands of the outdoors. But perhaps most importantly, always listen to your wife’s recommendations!
